Back from Marathon

Yay! Once more we have survived the movies and they have survived us. Though I really felt the lack of my laptop and I didn't really make it up to the balcony to socialize.

Highlights: Gojira! The original Japanese version of Godzilla, print restored in 2004 with added subtitles. There's a lot of movie that gets cut in the dubbed version. Glad I saw it, though it did feel kind of slow-paced. But it as a more serious movie than we give it credit for. Liked the throwaway comments like "Well, after living through Nagasaki..."

Nineteen Eighty-Four: I remembered wanting to see this when it came out. Aside from the amazing cheek of filming the novel during the exact dates it was supposed to take place, I found it to be an astoundingly faithful adaptation, with innovative (for the 80s) color processing and a re-imagining of what a future seen from the 40s would look like. The technology was beautifully NOT what we have today. Even the TV screens. I'd consider this rather a masterpiece, though it is just as slow-paced and depressing as the book. As I said, a faithful adaption.

Chronicles of Riddick: I could watch this movie again and again and again. Just for the biceps. *siiiiiigh* And, you know, the set design and glorious set-pieces. They really capture the feel of good old fashioned sci-fi pulp! Mmmm!

I'll update later with the low-lights. ;)
