Miraculously we managed to overcome all inhibitions and went swimming in the sea during the last three days. It's quite warm and sunny for september, the beaches and sea are empty so it's really nice. Admittedly the water's pretty cold, so we never stay for much more than half an hour, but that gives sufficient time to bodyboard-surf a few waves and hunt seagulls. Disturbingly we hadn't gone swimming in the sea for like two years at least, which is even more stupid considering we're living basically on the beach - but these days are over.
Apart from that we did some tumor surgery on poor, tiny (and yet so big) Sasquatch, who had been modelling so beautifully for the MC5 pic hours before. All went well and he was very compliant as a whole, especially considering that the tumor was inside the outer ear channel.
It's strange out of five hamsters we have/had, two had these tumors (that the vet had never seen before in hamsters, but that shapewise match something dogs develope after papilloma virus infections)..and both in strange locations Castor in the pouch, Quatch in the ear. And none of them ever had direct contact with dogs and supposedly it's not transmittable to other species than dogs anyhow. It's really weird, none of our hamsters ever die of old age, even if I think we treat them really well. Pollux died of probably diabetes/kidney failure, Castor died of ascites/heart failure probably due to Amyloidosis that could have been a consequence of her papilloma associated tumor, Hurricane died a sudden unexplained death and was cannibalized by Sasquatch, who now developed the same type of tumor as Castor. Velouria is totally wacko, but at least physically healthy ;)
