Hello. I'm Renee and my husband and I got married on August 11th of this year. The wedding was small because, frankly, my family did not approve of him and they made me choose. I chose, I planned, I paid, I vowed...and every single day, I wake up thinking that it was the best decision I ever made. It may not have turned out completely perfect or dorky-moment-free, but we made it our own completely. Get ready for some cute pictures of me, my Mental Match, and our Happy Day story taken by our friends and family members.
The man walking me down the aisle is my best friend, Steven. He is like a brother to me. The cutie carrying my train is my husband's cousin's eldest daughter. The location is my husband's Grandparent's cabin because I figured that it would be a good omen to have our ceremony there because that kind of property is what I want when I'm in my 70's too.
The dashing man officiating us is one of our very good friends, who filled in for my husband's cousin at last minute because she was having technical difficulties. We are all barefoot here because apparently that's a rule if one wants to get married on a beach. Funny...there were a lot of "rules" that no one told us until a few days before the wedding.
After some good ol' cue card dropping, ring fumbling, and choked up vows that the audience couldn't here (we both speak softly), the knot was tied!
\ Hug Time. We had no idea what was supposed to happen after we walked back down the aisle. My husband and I turned around and he was all like, "Hi Everyone!" we all laughed, and then all the hugging goodness began. The two people in the front of my line are my aunt and uncle, who were the only family members of mine to show up at all. As you can see, though, there was still plenty of love to go around.
This was the picture we had printed and we sent it out in all of our Thank You cards. Funny that it turned out to be the best looking picture we had because it also makes us look like we enjoy wine a lot, lot more than we actually do. (This is also a good look at my little headband I made out of silk flowers...I'm pretty proud of it because I lack crafty-veins.)
Here is his family with me as the new addition. Yay :)
This is my pride and joy. I found a cake-maker, visited her without an appointment (oops), and she listened to me nevertheless. I paid for this masterpiece myself and like everyone heard that night, "I worked 22 years for that!" which I whined as I cut it into pieces that everybody completely enjoyed. I'd never before dared to dream I'd have such a beautiful wedding cake. So it goes when you all of a sudden find yourself in the middle of new-found self-autonomy.
The wedding cake layers: carrot cake on top, chocolate chocolate chip in the middle, and banana on the bottom. We still have banana in our freezer (yum). The turtle went to his Nana because she collects turtles and the duckies (who led to the idea of a habitat cake and the wonderful metaphor it exudes) sit on our bathroom shelve now with all of their rubber ducky buddies.
After trying the whole "shove cake in mouth" thing, we decided to go about it in a less primitive way. I then proceeded to put pieces of fondant on my tongue, sneak up behind each of my friends in turn, stick out my blue tongue at them, and quickly walk away. Hey I was Grand Pumba Bride...the world (most of it, anyway) was my oyster that day.
There's our head table with his brother giving the toast. There were six tables in front of us where the guests were all seated. It was a pot luck type of dinner, with selected people bringing all types of food. (I myself brought ham roll-ups.) The reception itself took place in the basement of a bar. Again, funny, because we don't really drink at all, but it was way cheap and worked just fine.
This is Serendipity, the head table center piece. Yep, we had live fish to compliment the nature of the beach and the scene on the cake.
I could post a picture of the after-math of the neons, but I won't. I wouldn't want to incriminate the man who drank them. I didn't find out until after he left, lucky for him!
My best friend and my husband during the Money Dance. Awww....
This is the Macarena of course. Couldn't go without posting a group dance picture.
These are the DJs who are friends of my husband's. After a group of relatives left, some of our friends when and got glow sticks and bracelets, the room went dark except for rope lights, and it was Happy Hardcore Rave Music time! I went over and put bracelets on his Grandparent's wrists, and they loved it! It was so cute!!
These are all the highlights. I hope you enjoyed them and got a good laugh. The rest of the pictures and the honeymoon pictures (to San Fransisco) are up at www.tjshikes.com under Photo Album, Tim's Pictures, in case anyone wants to see more dweebiness. Thank you for looking.
