Hey y'all,
Over the course of this day I've been going through posts and adding tags to them. I'm not a mod, but I am studying to get my Masters in Library and Information Science and as such, social tagging is pretty interesting to me. Also, the whole librarian = likes things to be catagorized and organized.
I'm going to list some of the tag groups and basic ideas about taggin in this community that I've been developing as I've been taging stuff. I hope the mods don't mind.
- The year: Whenever I can find it, I've been putting the year in as a tag. I think that it'd be cool to be able to see all the pictures from a specfic year. I don't think that doing it by day would be good b/c I heard some stuff about LJ getting upset if you have too many tags on your list. The one exception is the 7/7/07 tag since a lot of people got married on that day.
- The season: there is now a tag for every season (spring, summer, winter, and fall). They all have the word "wedding" after them.
- Basic location: where did the wedding take place? Indoor, outdoor, at a church, in a castle, at the beach, on a remote island?
- Type of service: the weddings posted here display a wide variety of faiths and secular settings. If you feel comfortable posting about the nature of the type of service, please do so.
- Color: We all know that most weddings have some sort of color theme. The tags for color go "color: [color]". Each color should be listed separately.
- Wedding: we all know that it's a wedding. That's why it's posted here. The "wedding" tag isn't really necessary.
- Anything else you want: There are all kinds of tags already building up on the current list of tags. They range from "fun shoes" and "kilt" to the name of the photographer or dress maker to "bathroom" (check that one out if you haven't seen it...it's a great picture).
Also, before you tag your post, check the
current list of tags to see if what you want to use is already there in some way. That way we don't get "fall" "autumn" "fall wedding" "autumn wedding." Unless you want people to use all of them each time they have a wedding in the fall, it's better to keep it to one tag; that way anyone who wants to see all the fall weddings only has to click one tag, not four. Another way to check for this is to publish your post and then go back and use the "tag" option. You get a list of tags that way and can select multiple ones by holding down CTRL on a PC or the Open Apple on a Mac.
So, go fourth and tag. And feel free to discuss this. As I said, I'm not a mod, but I've been tagging all afternoon (somehow it's more interesting than developing a website for my Independent Study.)
Edit: I am now a mod. I am the mod of tagging.
