[ Ai could only think back on equally lame excuses made by the kid detective. ]

[he doesn't immediately notice Ai sitting at the table as he comes in, still in his uniform. only once he's procured two melon sodas does he turn around and see her, almost dropping them]

[She breaks away from her thoughts to look up, pulling the mug away from her mouth to set it down.] Hello, Kaoru-san.
