If you try to headlock me I will pwn your face.
No, really.
Today in aikido we did a couple of different techniques. For the first, you wrap your arm all the way around your attacker’s neck and hold him off balance. For the second, you turn underneath your attacker’s arm to lock his arm so it’s bent up by his head. In both techniques, if you give your attacker too much space, he can turn his head and slip out and stab you (we were attacking with knives. Aikido is so cool.)
Anyway, with both these techniques, but especially the second, I found I was able to slip out. For the second one, our instructor (Sensei) couldn’t even lock my arm. The problem (for him) was that whenever he tried to turn under my arm, I turned also - like we were dancing. Even his special spiffy technique wherein he stuck his face in the crook of my elbow didn’t work. He said he’d never seen anyone be able to turn with the head-in-the-elbow technique.
Mwahaha.
And no, it’s not that I have a tiny head, either. I wear an x-large in hats. It’s just that, for whatever reason, I can get out of that technique. Moreover, I don’t even try to do it. I just relax and let my opponent turn me, at which case I stab him in the gut with my knife.
I love aikido.
I mean, how many people get to spend two hours learning to disarm people who have knives?
(But please don’t attack me with one yet. I need LOADS more practice. The technique I got out of was when I was the attacker. . . .)
