The liberals have begun yet another political offensive to try and distract people from their series of disastrous political maneuvers in recent weeks.
Attempting to salvage the reputation of the NAACP and make people forget the Obama administration's role in pressuring a USDA employee to "resign" before knowing all the facts of the matter will not be easy.
Taking their cue from the past the left has decided to simply declare their side as the winners after suffering an egregious attack from racists. (Similar to the strategy of the Swift Boat incident in the 2004 election.) While the reality of the situation is that their political opponents have won every tactical engagement in recent weeks the left will simply declare themselves the winners and their opponents the losers. Future playing of the race card will come with the admonition to not let themselves be "Teabagged" (heh) again, just as liberal still rail against the alleged wrongdoing of the "Swift Boaters" in 2004.
They are hoping the short memory of voters will mean that people forget that they played the race card. That the ongoing scandals from JournoList prove that playing the race card is an integral part of the liberal political game plan. With journalists marginalized by the scandal the NAACP was tapped to lead the charge this time, with disastrous results.
Not only did the race card have little effect the NAACP appeared to be hypocrites for first allowing a story of black prejudice against white farmers to go uncommented and then reacting wrongly in condemning the speaker, Shirley Sherrod. (Seriously, was no one in the NAACP leadership actually at the event?) The Obama administration looks worst of all for forcing the resignation of someone who is (apparently) no longer guided by racism. Is a wine summit in the works?
Internal squabbles aside (I expect some more mutual "expulsions" from clubhouses) the Tea Party movement emerges as a group unfairly accused of racism and of tolerating racism while the liberals are forced to explain their increasingly bizarre behavior.
While it is good to see the race card strategy discredited it comes at the expense of real progress in the battle against racism. The left needs to think about that before they foolishly launch another unfounded attack on a political opponent.
