NEW YORK - The city will end the practice of paying teachers to play Scrabble, read or surf the Internet in reassignment centers nicknamed "rubber rooms" as they await disciplinary hearings, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the teachers union announced Thursday.
It's sad that something so blindingly obvious to the rest of the world took them decades to admit.
That's one less thing for the teacher's unions to steal away from the education of students.
This is of course bad news for the lawyer who was running his business from a "rubber room". I guess he'll have to decide whether he wants to be a teacher or a lawyer now!
