the many moods of Laura

Last week I felt legumey, this week I just felt lazy. So last week I made lentil soup (Scott ate a vegan dinner!) and black beans and rice with peppers and tomatoes (which was tasty but I think I prefer my beans and rice unadulterated by vegetables). This week (lazy) I made stuff with jar sauces: a Seeds of Change tikka masala over potatoes and peas; spaghetti with added yellow squash, garlic, and red pepper flakes. I think I also added red pepper flakes to the tikka masala sauce. They make everything better.

Also I felt sporty. And played tennis with Marck and Scott on Saturday and Monday. We appear to be at the same level, by which I mean we are all terrible. Come along and lunge around wildly with us.

Then! On Sunday I played kickball at Harvard with coworker Mike and some people he knows. I contributed nothing at all to defense (and sometimes cheered for the other team if I for some reason sympathized with them) but scored a run. And took a ball to the face while sliding into second. And was complimented by the other team for being fast despite my leg brace. I guess they thought they were going to have to be really polite and supportive as I hobbled gamely around the bases. I am so brave.

Then the game ended abruptly when a homeless guy punched a teammate's girlfriend in the face and stole her bag. And then was tackled by a passerby. Then the cops came. Later, on our way to the bar, we passed the dude panhandling, blood all down his face. He asked us for change. "In light of our recent relationship," replied Mike, "no."
