Ehhhh....
I know I said in my last entry that that would be my last entry from Greenville. But damn it, I can't sleep. It's 12:05 as I'm typing this, and I can't sleep. I'm way too excited to fall asleep, and I usually don't even go to sleep until about 1:30 or 2 am. I should have watched the Presidential Debates tonight, I wouldn't have missed getting any rest. But I did watch a few video clips on MSN.com.
So I tried searching for transcripts to the debates (come to think of it, I'm not even sure if they're over, since I never heard when they ended) but instead came up with this:
FOXNews.com > The O'Reilly Factor > Michael Moore: Bush 'Didn't Tell The Truth'. So I read through it, just so all the Republicans in my family will stop telling me to watch Fox News. (Right...)
In this interview, Bill O'Reilly actually says that it's not a lie if you believe it to be true. Huh. Well, that's convenient. Now, technically, to be absolutely fair,
Dictionary.com tells us a lie is "a false statement deliberately presented as being true; or something meant to deceive or give a wrong impression." However, we can't know for sure that Bush didn't know, or whether he would care if he did know, that he was acting on false information. (After all, as Moore said, "[Bush] went to Richard Clarke the day after September 11th and said, 'What you got on Iraq?' and Richard Clarke’s going 'Oh well this wasn’t Iraq that did this sir, this was Al Qaeda.'") Further, this is only semantics. Who cares if he was lying or not? If Hitler's motivation for committing the Holocaust had been false information that a genetic scientist had given him about how the Aryan race really is superior, and Jews inferior, would that have made a difference in how horrible his acts were? The fact is, war is something to be avoided, a tool to use only as a last resort, not an opportunity to be jumped at. A leader should make absolutely, positively sure that there is no question of whether his information is correct, and he should not go to war when he's already at war with someone else, even if this someone else is merely an abstract ideal. And...
But now I'm getting into a political rant.
Sorry about that... I just get so upset sometimes when it comes to politics. Which is why it's a subject I usually avoid if I think there might be an argument. Because let's face it. Most people are set in their opinion of which candidate, or (as is most often the case) which party they like the best and are not likely to change their mind, especially not because of a heated argument. But I digress.
So there's no debate transcript out there. At least, not yet. I guess that's to be expected. Not everyone has no life and gets no sleep, like me. Damn, I just wish I could go to sleep right now. Heavenly, Shawn, and Doug are on the road now as we speak, and have been for about three and a half hours. I can't think of a single way to make myself tired.
Solution? Hmm, well, I don't have a good one. The only thing I can think of is to go get my copy of The Silmarillion out of my car (all of my stuff is packed up and loaded into my trunk) and read until I feel sleepy. Who knows when that will be. But I can't think of anything better to do. Anyway, I guess if I don't end up getting much sleep, it won't matter because there won't be time to feel tired tomorrow with all the moving going on! And Heavenly will be just as tired as I. Plus, I will, like as not, be so happy to see the beautiful Heavenly that I won't care if I'm tired or not.
::sigh:: If anyone knows any good methods of going to sleep when one is not tired, please leave a comment so I can know in the future!!
