Hokay. So here's the deal. I'm doing a culminating project for one of my classes, and I chose to do it on the piano. (Go figure. I bet no one saw that one coming.) I have to do it using powerpoint, and I also have to incorporate all four units that we've studied in the course.
The units that we’ve studied so far are: Unbiased Multiple Perspectives, Developing an Individual Through a Guided Process, Bringing a Product to Market, and Developing a New Community.
Now, initially I was in the dark as to how I would relate the piano to all of these things, however I’ve finally come up with a bit of information. I’ll explain it below, just so you get an idea… (although I have many points for each one, I’ll end up just picking one from each group)
MULTIPLE PERSPECTIVES
-
electronic keyboard vs. Cristofori’s piano (pros/cons of each, etc)
-upright vs.
grand piano (pros/cons, etc)
-two different brands (pros/cons, etc)
-different methods of teaching
DEVELOPING AN INDIVIDUAL…
-assembling a piano
-Kiwanis music festival (a competition that we have in Canada--> preparing for it, etc)
-taking lessons, learning theory/technique, etc
MARKETING
-marketing oneself as a performer (becoming a teacher, producing a cd, being on a church team, etc)
-David Lanz and how he has marketed himself/what he’s about, etc
-How different piano brands/companies market their products
NEW COMMUNITY
-making society aware of music
-church community-->having church members be open to different types of music if asked to play in a church, etc
So that’s that. I realize that was probably a lot to read/digest… so thanks for reading it all if you did.
I also have to add some class involvement/creative components to it. I’ve already got one idea (I’m going to play clips from famous piano pieces and have people guess what they are)… but does anyone else have ideas? I’m grasping at straws here…
I'm picking very well-known pieces to use, as obviously not everyone in the class is going to know just random pieces. The ones I have are:
-Chopsticks (Liberace)
-Canon in D (Pachabel)
-Beethoven's 5th Symphony (Beethoven)
-Fur Elise (Beethoven)
-The Entertainer (Joplin)
-Funeral March (Chopin)
-Minuet in G (Bach)
-Heart and Soul
-Moonlight Sonata (Beethoven)
And, to top it all off, this is to be presented on Monday. Yes, I am a huge procrastinator. But that’s besides the point. AND I have to write an essay about this, too. HAHA. GONNA DIE.
So again, many thanks if you actually read this whole thing. Any feedback, suggestions, good graphics, etc, would be greatly appreciated.
Merci beaucoup.
