Oops

Note to new homeowners:
Please PLEASE don't forget about your home warranties; become familiar with what they cover and be sure to consult said warranty before asking people to come fix things. Jason and I made a nice $2600 mistake when we called our plumber over to fix some radiators we broke while painting (oops). He pointed out that our water heater was seriously corroded and gross and could basically explode any day. He even did this little trick where he let some of the water out of the water heater into a glass which showed the disgusting sediment that's been filtering its way into our water. We told him to go ahead and replace the water heater on the spot. Who wants gross water and the possibility of a flooded basement? Not me.
Well, $2600 later, I called my mom and told her where a good majority of our wedding money was going (the pocket of the plumber) and she asked about our home warranty - your home warranty didn't cover that? As that familiar panic settled into my stomach, Jason found the number for the warranty place and called. Turns out they would have covered the whole shebang and no, they will not reimburse us for work already completed. OOPS. Lesson learned.

To cushion the blow of this news, we spent some of our wedding gift cards on stuff for the kitchen...

I think that Jason and I should write a book on stupid mistakes made by new homeowners. (There are a few of those mistakes, most not as costly as this new one...)
