So, have we all caught up on Sherlock by now? I wasn't able to watch it last night because I had to get an early night for school this morning, and, not going to lie, I slept really badly and spent all day kind of on edge.  I don't think I've been this nervous about a TV show, ever.

[Sherlock S03 E03 - Spoilers!]In short: I thought it was amazing.

In more detail: I loved the twist about Mary.  I had honestly thought that she couldn't be a baddie, but when she turned around with that gun pointed to Sherlock...And then when even that turned out to be a double-bluff! Stop messing with my mind, Moffat!  But really, I just felt sorry for John.  Poor John.  But I thought their little make-up at Christmas was lovely and very heart-warming.

Actually, it was a surprisingly heart-warming episode, and most of that was mainly due to Mycroft.  Oh Mycroft, how I love you!  Can we talk about how much he clearly loves Sherlock?  The smoking break at their parents house ('It was Mycroft!') and his confession that his heart would be broken if anything happened to Sherlock...cue my own heart breaking a little bit.  The part at Magnussen's house when Mycroft was in the helicopter, and in his mind Sherlock was just a scared, crying child? That fact Mycroft's pressure point is Sherlock? And the fact that Mycroft managed to forgive Sherlock for drugging him and stealing his laptop, and then vouch for him at an inquest so he didn't even have to face prison for Magnussen's murder? But what's really sad is that Sherlock still doesn't seem to regard Mycroft as anything other than a nuisance.  Sure, he pops up in the Mind Palace scenes, but only with a tone of condescesion.  And of course, Sherlock was willing to sell him out in exchange for Magnussen's information on Mary...Poor Mycroft. (but at least he's still alive, right, after my death theories in the second episode?)

However, I'm sort of vaguely surprised that nobody saw it coming that Magnussen's vaults would only be metaphorical.  I suspected all along that he probably had some sort of photographic memory, especially with all the fore-shadowing this series with Sherlock's own Mind Palace.

And do we really think Moriarty is back?  I personally doubt it (but quite looking forward to being proved wrong, because I love Moriarty, and as a villain Magnussen seemed a bit weak, not to mention the fact that he's been killed with very little fanfare).  I read something on tumblr that said that Mycroft had maybe planted the Moriarty video as an excuse to bring Sherlock home and back into safety, and that's a nice thought.  I just think it would be a little tiresome if the writers have decided that Moriarty too faked his own death at the end of Series 2 - it's been done before, obviously, and repetition isn't a weakness of theirs.

I really hope we don't have to wait another 2 years or so until Series 4.

tv other, sherlock
