When she needs to shelter from reality she takes a dip in my daydreams

- So can we talk about the new Arctic Monkeys album? I really like it a lot.  About 70% of it is amazing and got stuck in my head after only one listen.  The other 30% I am not keen on at all, but at least all those tracks come one after another in the middle of the album so I can just skip them.  The album as a whole is a lot less light and spangly than 'Suck It And See' and the Guardian called it the best album since their debut, which at the moment I'm agreeing with.

- Mercury Music nominees were announced yesterday, and can I just say that is one hell of a shortlist this year.  I mean, I don't think I could pick a winner between Foals, Jake Bugg, Laura Mvula or the aforementioned Arctic Monkeys.  Bowie is the favourite (of course...).

- Did anyone see the new QI last week?  Series K, can you believe it?  It had Sara Pascoe, David Mitchell and Jack Whitehall on it.  Jack Whitehall is what I really want to talk about here.  I used to hate Jack Whitehall.  I thought he was smug and superficial and trying too hard to be 'down with the kids' with silly observational stuff.  But he was on an episode of QI last series and was actually really good and I felt a bit bad for judging him.  I thought he was alright on this new episode too.  But mainly I've been watching 'Bad Education' (if you haven't seen it, it's a basic middle-of-the-road BBC 'youth' sitcom in which Jack Whitehall plays a pretty incompetent teacher).  I don't love it (ie. I'm not going to go out and buy DVDs or anything), but it's amusing enough to fill half an hour or so.  And Jack Whitehall's character in it is sort of adorable.

(On a side note: Noel Fielding is a panellist tomorrow on QI.  It's a tough choice in my mind whether or not to watch this, because Noel Fielding generally makes me want to punch something very hard.)
