Nothing lasts but memories

Some random things:

- So, I only just realised that 'A Song Of Ice and Fire' isn't finished being written yet?! I know that makes me sound like such a bad fan, but somehow I just assumed the whole series was finished.  Now I feel like I have to ration them instead of just powering through them at the rate of a book a week.

- I read 'Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls' by David Sedaris yesterday - it's a gorgeous book of short stories/essays, about Sedaris's sometimes weird obsessions (like trying to find a stuffed owl to give his boyfriend for Valentine's Day).  It's such a good read, and a quick one, and I really recommend it to anyone and everyone.

- New obsession: Laura Mvula.  I saw her live in May without knowing any of her songs and was blown away by the beauty of her music (and herself).  But somehow I've only just got round to getting her album, and now listening on constant repeat - it's perfect for this weird heatwave we're having.

- Anyone watch Wimbledon?  It was actually quite nice to see Andy Murray win - I think he deserved it at that stage.  And I liked Alex Salmond, the Scottish first minister, who sat behind David Cameron and waved a giant Scotland flag when Murray won, as if to say, "hands off, Cameron, he's ours! Ours, I tell you!"

- Finally: the new Arctic Monkeys track, 'Do I Wanna Know'?  Verdict: catchy.  Very much in their new heavy rock genre, it's like 'Brick By Brick' or 'R U Mine'.  But seriously, so excited for the new album in September.
