Four good reads

Haven't posted here in a while.  Been doing lots of reading, though.

- 'Starter For Ten' by David Nicholls.  Really loved it.  David Nicholls writes engagingly, like Nick Hornby, and you feel like you completely know the characters by the end.  I actually saw the film of this a year ago, but I didn't appreciate it as much as I would if I saw it now.  It has James McAvoy and Benedict Cumberbatch in it.  And it's about wasted uni students competing in 'University Challenge'.  What's not to love?

- 'Toast' by Nigel Slater.  I very much like Nigel Slater.  The TV adaptation of this at Christmas was brilliant, and it even went a little way to making me like Helena Bonham Carter.  The book is as sad as the adaptation.

- 'Skippy Dies' by Paul Murray.  It's not too often something is described as 'tragic and comic' and actually lives up to that hype.  This really did.  It's excellent.  I recommend it to everyone.

- 'My Favourite People And Me: 1978-1988' by Alan Davies.  Really interesting.  It's the sort of thing that really makes you wish you were a teenager in the 80s too.  Plus I got to imagine Alan's voice in my head for ages.  Perfect.
