"I'll go and slip into something a little less comfortable."

I got round to seeing 'The Guard' last night.  It was brilliant.  Like 'Hot Fuzz', but Irish and funnier.

Brendan Gleeson was amazing (I've read a few reviews which mentioned The 'O' Word, which I would love, but think is doubtful), as was Don Cheadle and his exasperated expressions, and the cameo from Pat Shortt (Tom from 'Father Ted'! Look, it's Tom!).  The soundtrack ought to be released soon - trad ceili galore, plus end credits in huge red writing to 'Leaving on a Jet Plane'.  The scenery - the Conamara Burren - was stunning.  The sly digs at racism and sectarianism were surprisingly clever, and filled with dark humour.  Without spoling things, the ending was 100% perfect.

It's things like this that make me realise how much I'm going to miss this place when I'm not here.  I guess even I get my moments of patriotism.
