The arrival of a new roomate changes the communes dynamics, especially for the main character, who falls for the newcomer. It's not a particularly interesting story but I loved this line.

When I was old I knew I wouldn’t wear purple, like in the poem, instead I would limp around under cover of darkness, correcting punctuation on billboards with a spray can. pp 198
