My review (as given to the author): First things first, AP is FANTASTIC. I’m so in love with your Ray I’m floating. I’ll have to re-read to give a careful analysis, if I even manage such a feat (the analysis, not the re-reading) I will come back. This fic spoke to the academic in me, it being pre-exam days, this is, besides comfortingly reassuring, actually quite helpful because now I actually want to go write that dissertation I’m due. And the sex, with the language metaphors and the literary comparisons and… god, I melted.
Extra Comments: This is the first Alternate Reality fic I have read in dS and well, I can't say I thought I was ready, having watched about a fourth of the show and read about sixty fics max. I always like to get the canon really well before I go wandering. This is for the simple reason that a good AR/AU should emphazise the canon aspects through the differences. Fortunately, this fic is so fucking brilliant and does it so well it actually helps me to understand the canon universe better. I can't recommend it enough.
Ray the Academic also made me remember that "queer" as a positive term (as in queer theory), as an undefined difference, is still an exclusively academic term (as proven by the fact that there's still no real translation to Spanish, for ex, or that, well, non-aca people keep using "queer" as an insult). I wonder if it can be anything but, if it can ever enter the realm of binary society, of everyday life without lossing itself.
