Comments: The thing about starting something with high expectations is that is hard not to be disappointed, there are authors that have reached such a peak that can’t help but go down. So it’s just as well I’m not completely sure of Novik’s fandom identity. I liked “His Majesty’s Dragon”, I listened to it in 3 days or so, 100.000 words so not bad. I liked the character of Temeraire. Laurence not so much, he’s a bit stiff and fairly boring in a Gryffindorish (or maybe Hufflepuffish?) kind of way. Also, war and battle aren’t really my thing (which might mean the writing is VERY good). The relationship within the two is obviously the central aspect of the story and I enjoyed it but the rest was quite uninteresting. Should I be wanting to slash a man and a dragon, as cute as they are or is it going too far? (It’s not my fault Temeraire wondered if dragons could turn into humans or humans into dragons, is it? It’s obviously a HUGE HINT, not to mention the other completely sexual accidental thing). People at
Temeraire don’t seem to be getting the same idea, for the most part. Anyway, I’ll see if I get to listen to the second book soon.
