Tiny Tim tomatoes (the kind I'm growing on my kitchen windowsill) are described as 45 days to fruit. I had thought that this meant 45 days to ripe tomatoes, but apparently it means that's when the first ones form. One of my tomatoes has sprouted! That's seven days since planting, versus nine for the previous batch of seeds.

When I checked this morning, there was no sign of anything; now, five hours later, it's about half an inch tall.

I planted tomato seeds today, in a little pot on my windowsill. These are genuine Tiny Tims, newly bought from an heirloom seeds place. The previous package was labeled Tiny Tim, but I'm dubious, because they didn't behave like the descriptions of that variety ( Read more... )

I'm beginning to seriously doubt that I've been growing Tiny Tim tomatoes. That's what the packet says, but the information I can find online doesn't match their behavior. Tiny Tims are supposed to ripen in about 45 days from planting; mine have been taking twice that. They're also supposed to only be about a foot tall; mine are the height of the ( Read more... )

I planted tomato seeds last Sunday--exactly a week ago--and the first sprout appeared today. Last year it was nine days before I saw the first seedling; I think I can stop worrying that I've been overwatering them this year.

I just planted tomato seeds. Only going to nurture one plant this year; the two last year were fighting for sun in the window.

As of this morning, two of my tomatoes are visibly ripening. That's a little less than a month since the first one(s) formed. Interestingly, neither of these is the first one to appear, which was also the first one to reach full size. That one is bigger than either of these, but it's still stubbornly green.

Yesterday morning, I saw a tiny tomato on the larger of the two plants. This morning, there's another.

About two months since planting the seeds.
