The hopefully-final word on my FiOS phone/internet connection: The tech showed up this morning for my repair appointment, coincidentally (or not) the guy who installed it in the first place. He said that beeping means battery issues, probably caused by a loose connection. So he tightened everything. Took him less than five minutes.

It's hard to tell if it made a difference, because it had been fine again since last night anyway. Crossing fingers for it *staying* fine this time!
