review, of sorts

The Sarah Jane Adventures is a children's spin-off of Doctor Who. I just finished watching the DVDs of the first season.

Sarah Jane Smith was always one of my favorite companions, so I was eager to see more of her. Unfortunately, here she is the older, mentor figure to the kids (new neighbor Maria, SJ's adopted son Luke, and their schoolmate Clyde), which takes some of the fun out of it. The kids are appealing; I love Clyde trying to teach the fish-out-of-water Luke how to be human and cool. The plots are reasonable, although I'd be happier with fewer new Who retreads (esp the Sliveen).

Verdict: not bad. I didn't waste my money, but I probably won't bother to buy subsequent seasons. (I wonder if K-9 and Company is out on DVD. Hmmmmm.)
