Hi Everyone!
Here I am with this week's discussion post, for Anne of Ingleside. A picture of the cover of the copy I grew up with (my mother's literally falling apart at the seams) should appear below provided I've managed to upload the picture correctly (fingers crossed).
It's always been my favourite of the later three books. I hope everyone else enjoyed it. Some of my discussion questions are a bit random, but then so am I, but I thought they'd get us started.
1. Do you have a favourite Blythe child? Or, to make it possibly more interesting, a favourite Blythe child other than Walter? (Apologies if your favourite Blythe child isn’t Walter, but every single person I have ever asked has said theirs was, so...)
2. Did the first few chapters feel like obvious fanservice to people missing and asking about Avonlea to anyone else?
3. Anne and Gil, still the best couple ever? (She even wanted to look nice for him on the train!)
4. What do you think of Susan in this book? And the friendship between Anne and Susan?
5. Do you have a favourite Blythe child escapade of the many told in the book?
6. Do you think the focus is too much on the Blythe children in this book, and not enough on Anne and Gilbert and their marriage?
7. Anne of Ingleside paints a rather idyllic picture of the Blythe family’s home life. Do you find everyone just a little too perfect in this book?
8. Do you enjoy hearing a lot of random facts about the entire population of Glen St. Mary? (And what do you think Mrs. Bruce Duncan of the Ladies Aid quilting circle has been asking God for twenty years, but has not received?)
9. Is there anything obvious that jumps out at you to indicate this book was written after the ones that come after it chronologically?
10. What do you think of the book as a whole and how it compares to the rest of the series? Do you find it noticeably different than the ones that came before?
11. And as for the last three chapters, do you think they’re easily the best part of the whole book?
Enjoy!
