Self-pimp like woah:

I can't believe I wrote and submitted that. More to the point I can't believe the eds wanted it. I always feel like writing academically about yourself walks a fine line between critical responsibility and navel-gazing and I veer problematically towards the latter. But I guess the point of auto-ethnography (a term coined by Matt Hills in critique of auto-biography) is that it recognizes the self as culturally constructed in, by and against a web of discourse, instead of the old Dickensian/Freudian, 'Well, it all began when I was born, with my unique nature, etc etc....'

The issue also features an awesome and sophisticated piece by my homegirl Lucy Bennett, recently a Dr., and who is now editing a journal herself. She writes primarily on music fandom.

Next thing I am doing is adapting what will be the first chap of my Phd on why Foucault is a good tool to analyze fanfic instead of the ubiquitous Bourdieu. Going to submit that to the pilot issue of a new Journal of Fandom Studies

and see what they make of it. Yesterday was a whole day of networking and conferences with other people from the school, and I've somehow picked up an additional job for next term organizing Fresher activities and introducing them to the school. Not quite sure how that happens, but it's all good! Can always use the extra £!

Oh God, only 1 week till the return of SPN. Sooooo excited. And spoiler free. Hope everyone else is okay, must go do some stuff now!

yay, discourse, writing, culture, win, fandom, media, academia
