Officially A Woman...

I had my very first pap smear test today. I've managed to get by some 32 years without having one but I couldn't escape it this time. I blame both Bill and Roy. If I hadn't had sex in 2003-04, I wouldn't have to do it. Still, it's nice to finally get the damn thing over with.

I'll spare the details but it wasn't fun at all. Though according to the doctor who checked me out, she said everything looked fine. My regular doctor had to cancel my appointment at the last moment so I had another female doctor do it instead. Not a big deal considering both would be looking for the same sorts of things.

Though I admittedly haven't had a full exam since 2002. Oops. In fact, I had to give her more family history since a lot of things have happened since then. I had to tell her that my father died from a heart attack in 2003, my mom developed MS in 2003, and that my grandma died in 2006 in her sleep. Not a very happy history but definitely relevant for medical purposes. They already had the thyroid stuff on file since that happened in 1985 for my mom and in 2002 for my aunt. Both had opposite thyroid problems: hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and hypothyroidism (inactive thyroid).

So they took some blood to test for heart disease, cholesterol, and thyroid. If any problems come up with either, she'll call me back to a consult. And if the numbers are odd, they might have to draw more blood when I haven't eaten for 8 hours. Hopefully the latter won't happen as I don't like getting blood taken. I always end up with a bruise on my arm from it.
