Argh! So this morning my mother and I were on our way to work (we carpool since we work at the same place) and right at one of the busiest intersections in Arlington, (Cooper & Pioneer Pkwy for those in the area.) her car dies. DIES dies. Like really dies. It made this whistling, kind of airy sound and went dead and would make absolutely no attempt to start again. Fabulous.

We dart across four lanes of rush hour traffic to a parking lot and this is where I find out that I can’t call information from my cell phone. What’s up with that, AT&T? I called Tinkerbell and got her to give me the number to a tow truck company and then we waited for an hour in the allergen-laden wind which is surely going to bring on the allergy attack that I have been trying so hard to prevent.

The tow truck driver was actually quite nice and very handsome. He got there just as this mean policeman was telling us that we would have to PUSH the car thru the intersection and up a hill into a parking lot in rush hour traffic because it was in such a bad place. Um, yeah. My sixty year old Mother and I are totally capable of that. The tow truck driver rescued us though and all we had to do was get in the truck while he did the work. He had circa 1985 Prince on in his truck too so I liked him immediately. If I wasn’t so squished and sitting in my mother’s lap, I would have really enjoyed the ride across town in a big, red tow truck. Hmmm…Kevin is a truck driver. Maybe I have a thing for truck drivers? Nope. I don’t think so. I do like riding in big trucks though.

Anyways, he took us (and the car) to the Toyota dealership where my Mother had just put over $1000 into the car fixing whatever they said needed to be fixed, like two weeks ago.
(It's a 13 year old Corolla that has never had any problems until just recently.) While I was waiting for their shuttle to take us to work, I almost bought a 2009 Prius in the lovely Aloe Green color. ALMOST, because now is not the time and I am able to control myself like a rational human being. Most of the time.

After all of that we were only 30 minutes late to work and nobody was hit by oncoming traffic so I guess all is well. Except for Jared. Jared is Bella’s best dinosaur friend and she carries him around everywhere. He even rides to and from school with her. And I totally forgot to get him out of the car so Jared is going to be missing for 5 to 7 days and Bella is not going to be happy. And I am not going to the dealership and asking for my dinosaur.

Now we just have to hope that Kevin gets off work at a semi-decent time so he can come pick us up from work. My best friend is able to pick Bella up from school by the cut-off time so thank goodness for that.

So you want to know what the dealership said was wrong with her car? This cracks me up. They said, “The cam shaft gear broke. We don’t know how it broke and it wasn’t part of the work that you just had done so it’s not under warranty but um, well, since it is CLOSE to the work we just did, we are going to go ahead and pay for it AND for your towing expense.” Really? Car dealership repair shops do that out of the goodness of their heart? PFfffftttt. They totally fucked it up when they had it in there two weeks ago is what I’m thinking. Oh well, at least we had already dropped Bella off at school so she didn’t have to stand out in the traffic with us. That would have been bad. It’s going to take 5 to 7 days for the part to come in and be installed but since my car works, we will be fine and are actually pretty lucky.

Speaking of Bella, look at her dress! The lovely and talented britishcowgirl, HANDMADE this dress just for her and sent it all the way from the U.K. How amazing is that? I have such great friends!

And look how cute it is in the back-

I actually let Bella wear it to school yesterday after promising she wouldn’t roll around on the ground at recess because from the moment she tried it on, she didn’t want to take it off. It swirls around her legs when she spins around and she has decided that it is a princess dress and she is never taking it off. Thank you britishcowgirl, you made my daughter really happy!

Well, back to work!

P.S. - Operation Purple Nail Polish had made no impact whatsoever. However, I’m working on something else now that has already shown very positive results. More on this later. Mwah!
