Snow = socialism

Nov 18, 2008 07:10

Yesterday it snowed all freaking day, but none of it sticked for very long.  It was a nice way to ease into winter and the holiday season.

I finally finished grading my second round of midterms.  For the Great Depression question, I asked them to tell me which candidate (Herbert Hoover or FDR) they would have voted for in 1932 if they had no knowledge of future events.  Out of the 25-ish students who chose to write on that question, only one lonely soul would have voted for Hoover, because FDR was trying to create a "socialistic government."  For a brief moment, my heart fluttered, thinking that election season was back!  Someone trying to create a socialist government!  The end of America as we know it!  Yes!  But alas.  The news has been so boring lately.  Economic crisis, wildfires in California again, blah blah blah.  Even the McCain/Palin autopsy articles have tapered off.  Sigh.  Thankfully the 2010 midterm elections are just around the corner...
