Today I had one of those "I love the world I'm living in moments." I was sitting in Rex Vowels, my COMP1921 lecture and I had my tablet out, ASUS Wireless USB stick plugged in and was connected to the Internet via UNSW's VPN.
So I was surfing around and I got to thinking about when I should be getting Lily's present now that it's only over a week away and I decided to bite the bullet and buy it straight from EzyDVD's website instead of walking into a store. So I added it to my shopping basket, typed in my credit card number and whoosh off it went. I got the automatic email that came with making my order but what amazed me is that about 30 or so minutes later I got another email saying that my order had been verified and was ready to be shipped. I even get a Startrack tracking code which I tried out this evening and it told me that it was coming from Adelaide over to Willoughby via courier.
So if you think about it, me sitting unconnected to any wires in a lecture room connected to the net through the magic of wireless, sending a packets of data over to the EzyDVD ordering server/computer, someone actually picking it out at the same time, checking stock, wrapping it up and then chucking it on a truck to be driven to the airport where it can be flown over to Sydney and then driven to my house. Now when I take a step back I realise this has all been taken for granted but still I can't imagine how the world came to be like this but I'm pretty glad it did.
On a related note...
Thought of the Day
If you had to choose between having either the internet or the person you loved most in the entire universe for the rest of your life, which would it be?
