well, week one is over and i must say it is good to be back in school. class is class and i'm having fun with it. that's not saying all the kids are having fun with it. but in time many will i hope. my sophomores have very little personality. that class as a whole has a bad rep and is known for their attitude. unfortunately the middle school teachers communicated this to the high school when the class was in its freshman year. i think the kids know this and feel persecuted in some way. which i can't blame them for. there are a few shining examples of personality however and i trust that they will come along once they see i'm not an ogre.
my juniors are a hoot. i had alot of them last year so we know each other already. it's government though and so far that has been boring. basic definitions and such. i promised them it will not be so dry after chapter 1. now i have to live up to that.
social problems is great. juniors and mostly seniors. free thinking class. no text so i got to find the materials. we're doing social boundaries now and start the violence unit monday. that will take weeks. then it's intolerance which will take us to the end of marking period one. lots of movies, documentaries, articles and short projects. it's a half year course and i have it again. so i'll be repeating the stuff for the second half of the year.
it's been fun to hear all the "hey, mr wallace" stuff in the halls. i get greeted everywhere. and it's funny to have kids who are in another class yell out "hi, mr wallace" when they are supposed to be doing algebra or whatever. i don't encourage them to yell out in another class, but i find it humorous all the same.
so that's the school thing so far.
