Angela Carter

I came across this stunning author quite by chance. Bought the Vintage Classic Twins Fear pair more for the Grimm's fairy tales volume, but ended up being rather enamored by The Bloody Chamber.

I suppose it can be described as a collection of alternative fairy tales. Or perhaps, alternative reworked fairy tales.

Lush, sensuous, and invigoratingly inventive. Brings much reading pleasure. And at times rather sumptuously horrifying.

Definitely one of the star reads of my last six months.

I have my sights set on Fireworks, another short story collection of Carter's. My interest was ignited when I saw that she'd spent time living in Japan, and that some of the stories in Fireworks have their roots in that period of her life.
