Definitly time for an update. I know no one is following my crab schedule but I just hate forgetting to write about my beach stuff. Had a lot of other not so fun stuff to deal with this week with being sick and with my stupid car. Just when you think life may start going up..it goes WAY down.
Tuesday 20th & Wed 21st- no crabbing...me = not working properly. :( But thanks a million to Rich for coming to be with me for ungodly hours and bringing Gabe to join in the non-fun. I am insanely grateful! And thank you Kruti for coming to spend some time with me and talk Wed. That made my day!
Thursday the 22nd- Office work for a long time. Entered a bunch of data from people Mattei gave tags to in Fairfield. It's so funny to read the descriptions people write when they don't know what parts of the crab are called. haha. Me, Gabe, and Dr. Botton went to the beach later at night and thought it would storm outside. Luckily it didn't and instead it lightly rained for awhile. Then the sun came out while setting and made the most amazing rainbow I've ever seen. You could see the whole arch stretching from the lighthouse in the distance to the shore. It was really awesome because it related to what was going on- we met some Japanese fisherman on the beach who couldn't speak english but saw what we were doing and helped us tag anyway. Nonverbal communication links us all together. It was a really cool experience. Oh and we found over 100 crabs! Nice.
Friday the 23rd- Joe came to visit finally! And he came to work with me and Gabie. He thought it was awesome. :) Which is true, I mean there's no greater feeling than seeing the sunset on the beach while you're working. And I feel like I have to protect the crabs now it's so funny. We found about 90 crabs. And it rained some of the time and Gabe decided to prove the theory of the "waterproof" notepad by throwing it in the water. And when he had a hard time separating the pages he knew it was a bad idea. :) hahaha. Oh and Guy thought we'd be able to get back on the opposite side of the shore through the grassland part. NOPE it was flooded. We walked an extra mile and a half in the dark to realize we'd have been fine walking back on the normal side of the beach. *rolls eyes* Here's hoping not to have contracted lyme disease.
Saturday 24th- So we tagged about 80 crabs and thought we wouldn't find that many more. After I created the new slogan "Hey crabs-free piercings!" We found like 40 more. :D Genius! But we didn't tag them because Guy thought we shouldn't. But I think he felt like we should afterwards because he just didn't expect there would be THAT many more. We also saw some fisherman with a small shark that he caught fishing. It's gills were still moving! SO creepy!! BUT cool. :)
Sunday 25th- So me and Joe went to the Beardsley Zoo (it only rained a little) I LOVED it. Zoos make me happy. :) But there were no horseshoe crabs there. lol Later on me, Gabe, Joe, and Guy went out again at 8-11PM. At first we found maybe 5 walking to the point as it became dark because the water was SOO murky and a bit choppy. Then we saw 20-30 as we walked back and one recapture. Still were hard to see but many were coming RIGHT to the shore.
Monday 26th- No car till tomorrow. And now I'm minus a TON of money. But in some weird twisted way God came through for me. *sigh* And yet I still worried.
Oh Amber called and told me when she and dad were at the beach she saw a sign that read "Horseshoe crab mating season May 11- June 25th" Awesome. No more late night crabbing!! Or crabbing at all. :-P haha Wel until Friday- we're seeing how many still come out "after season"
