I agree. I believe it is fear. Some people think that sensuality and sexuality in women is wicked because it is a kind of power that women hold. They think that a woman can't be sexual/sensual and spiritual at the same time, it's either one or the other. These people think that woman aren't capable (for whatever reason) to and control these gifts/ ( Read more... )

If they did one minute of research, they'd realise that belly dancing was a dance that celebrated what it physically means to be a woman and not some strip tease shimmy meant to get men happy in the pants.

Funny how I never truly heard an uproar from the Christian right over the Chippendale dancers...

I agree with you. I think you should be able to praise God in whatever way you please. A lot of people can't connect with just the old boring bible reading and structured prayers, doing these kinds of things offers people a chance to come closer to God in their own way. If what you're doing to worship God is boring, then that type of activity isn't what you should be doing.

Pneuma, pysche, soma. alexis_laforge May 8 2007, 22:39:54 UTC
Some Christians deny the existence of psyche, almost all deny the existence of soma. But they're in a sad way, because these are the building blocks on which pneuma rests. Sort of. They're all necessary, and it's not like pneuma is just a completion of the other two, but... I don't know. Just know that the tri-part nature of the human is important, and that one without any of the others is pretty useless and as dead as dust.

Spirit, mind, body.

I want to ask you a question. razycrandomgirl May 9 2007, 03:58:05 UTC
Do you think someone could be a Christian and a Feminist?

I should say it would be necessary. alexis_laforge May 11 2007, 04:26:44 UTC
To respect women (the soul of feminism) would be an important part of being Christian. Did you know that Wisdom, in Proverbs, is characterized as a female? And that God has at least one feminine name, which suggests a feminine aspect? And that the Hebrew word for "spirit" (Ruach) is a feminine noun? Hmm. Impossible to not respect girls.
