craziness

I think I'm prepared for classes next week. Everything sorted out and I got the override I needed, which means I'm back up to 15 credits.

This week has been nothing short of crazy. My computer decided to dislike my first installation of XP on my new hard drive, which happens every time I build a computer for myself it seems - never with anyone elses for some reason. After 2 days it was back up and is looking ok so far. Yesterday I was hanging out with Rachel when Laura took a spill off of her bike and gave me a call to see if I could bring her a band aid. I called her when I got to where she said she was because I couldn't find her and she sounded so confused and couldn't tell me where she was until someone nearby told her. She said she didn't remember calling me, which gave me a really bad feeling. She was next door to where I was so I drove out and made a quick turn before an ambulance came down the road. Rachel said she hopes it isn't going where we are and I kinda passed it off, but next thing we knew it was pulling up to the driveway where we were. I was freaking out at this point and confirmed that it was there for Laura (she's ok now, don't worry!). She was standing in the bathroom inside with scrapes and dirt on the right side of her face, cuts on her hands, a hole at the right knee of her jeans, and a gash on her right hip. She had forgotten what had happened and was looking ridiculously dazed. The paramedics asked her some questions to make sure she was ok, which she was luckily, but she didn't remember anything between riding and what was happening at the present. Anyway, I rode with them to the hospital, where she started remembering what was going on once the shock passed. Rachel and I stayed with her there for an hour or so as she waited to get x-rayed, during which it was quite a relief seeing Laura laughing and saying that this was overkill. I think it's really good that she went anyway, but the x-rays turned out ok and we took her home. She has a number of lacerations and bruises, but nothing major from what we know. We found out that she was riding to campus to take pictures and decided not to wear a helmet for, no joke, the only time ever since I've known her. It wouldn't have helped anyway though, as her tire got caught in the railroad tracks and caused her to fall sideways onto her right side. Interestingly, the guy at the place where we picked her up said that every year near the time school starts, someone falls on the tracks. Craziness. All is well now and she's healing up. She'll certainly have a story to tell when she gets to classes and I'm sure a lot of people will be asking.

Today was pretty good. Rachel, Bruce and I went to "Squire Hill Palooza", which is an event held by our apartment complex if you couldn't tell by the name. We took part in some volleyball followed by some mad water ballooning and good times were had. As we were playing the UPS guy was delivering nearby and I was getting all anxious, as I had left a note for him to the package for my camera at the door and figured he must've dropped it off by that time. I excitedly pulled it out of the box, stuck in the battery and SD card, then turned it on only to have it extend the lens, then retract it, and tell me there's a "lens error", at which point it turned itself off. Well crap on that. Apparently this is common in the compact Casios where if the lens is obstructed as it's opened, the motor will break. The battery wasn't in the thing when I got it and I sure as heck didn't block the lens, so the camera must've been defective and can therefore be replaced for free. I just want to take some pictures! It's all good, I just need to be patient while I wait for a new one to come. Hopefully, the broken one won't be scrapped.

I'm back in NoVA for a few hours tomorrow for Michael's birthday celebration and picking up some things, but yet again I won't have a chance to hang out since I REALLY need to get back to do work on Sunday. Good luck with classes everyone.
