Well an update on my cat, Penny. After we brought her home she just sat on her mat all night, wheezing slightly. James and I feared the worst. I took her to a vet clinic this morning and it just so happened that the vet who saw her yesterday works at this clinic as well. What a shitty day. This morning the cat randomly hacked up some bloody saliva. I didn't think too much of it since she'd had an upper respiratory infection last week and coughing up snot was par for the course. But then she threw up more, and it had some string in it. Last night I made the hard decision to have Siebert put down. He didn't respond to the prednisone and was just so thin. He was taken to the vet a half hour ago and other than a little bit of vomiting after the first injection, he quietly passed on. "He just had no fight left in him," the Vet said sadly.

I took Siebert back to the vet's office on Thursday for a recheck. The vet is absolutely stumped as to why his diarrhea has not gotten even a little bit better. I asked her if it could be because one of his new heart medications lists diarrhea as a side effect and she said no, it can cause diarrhea in dogs and humans, but it's well tolerated in ( Read more... )

So, Siebert's chest x-ray showed that his heart isn't enlarged, but it is abnormally shaped. The vet had tried to look at his heart while doing his abdominal ultrasound but couldn't really tell much; she did a second ultrasound (no charge) today with the help of another vet. He actually trotted out of the bedroom for his breakfast this morning, and while he's still having difficulties crouching down to his food bowl (which I've raised for him) he hasn't fallen over once today. He still kinda stumbles to the left but his balance is much better. Fingers crossed!

Siebert seems improved this morning. I'm not getting my hopes up too much; he's still having issues, but he can walk around, get in and out of the litterbox, and get onto my bed. He's also eating and drinking on his own. I phoned the vet this morning with the update. She told me that I could keep him over the weekend and see how he does; the ( Read more... )
