Shocktoberfest

First of all, please disregard my last post if you will.  I was having a rough day, and am kind of going through a personal struggle right now, but I got over that little bump and am back to normal now (hopefully the medication I'm starting next week will help immensely).  That being said, I finally got to go to Shocktoberfest today!  I've wanted to go for years, but never got to until now.  I wish I could have taken pictures, but I doubted they allowed flash photography, so I didn't bring my camera.

To start, it was rainy and cold, but the place is open rain or shine, luckily.  Still, three out of five attractions were closed, and since they weren't expecting big crowds, they had a lot of the food and game booths shut down for the weekend.  Still, we saved a bit of money by only buying the two ticket deal instead of an all access pass, and I even somehow got extra tickets by accident(not as if I could do anything with them, since Ashley didn't have any, but they're a... souvenir?).

Anyway, first was "Toxic Asylum 3D Extreme", which we had to wear 3D glasses for, to Ashley's dismay.  We found out that actors are allowed to touch you as long as it's within the boundaries of not groping, so we ended up coming out with messed up hair since multiple actors played with it, along with grabbing our arms and shirts and such.  One actually held on to my shirt and followed us through a dark tunnel, which I found kind of funny.  There was also a girl at the end that, no matter how much makeup she had on, was adorable!  She kept asking if we would take her home and I wanted to be like "YES!!".

Next was "Prison of the Dead".  We had trouble finding this one, since they weren't taking people at the marked gate for whatever reason, but rather picking them up with a decorated bus at the ticket area.  We ended up trekking through a closed attraction trying to find it before we finally asked an employee.  I'm guessing the quick change had something to do with the rain.  The bus ride was fun, with a mock tour recording and music soundtrack.  When we arrived, they were yelling at us to move faster and line up (prison setting), while a tour video played on some TVs.  We got lost a few times in this one, tripped a few times, and I lost my purse apparently very close to the beginning.  Talk about an extreme experience!  At one point, one of the actors was basically cornering Ashley and whispering in her ear that her wanted to chop her up and eat her.  Another moment was when a guy was grabbing my arm and pulling me telling me I wasn't getting away, while I of course pulled Ashley with me.  My favorite was a girl playing a doctor in the infirmary.  She stopped our group and stared at me for about a full 10 seconds after asking if I would volunteer for surgery.  She literally blocked us off, but when she moved, she screamed "You won't do it?  Then GET OUT!!" and the "get out" part was a long hideous shriek.  I want her part.  Seriously.  Screaming in peoples' ears FTW.

It was funny, though, when at the end, the same actor that had been assaulting Ashley for her delicious meats came out and was like, "Hello again, is anyone missing a purse," still trying to stay in character.  That's when I said "ho shit, that might have been me!"  Seriously, I didn't even realize it until then, because the attractions were actually pretty intense.  I'm glad the staff was nice though, even the ones that are there to scare you.

TL;DR, Shocktoberfest was fun, although I don't recommend it for everyone.  It's good if you're willing to sacrifice personal space and a bit of hearing (they loved the sudden loud sounds) for a good scare.  If you're someone who's freaks out when someone touches you, I definitely wouldn't recommend it.  I've never been to a place where they got so... physical with it.  But everyone was very nice, especially when we kept getting lost and they had to go a bit out of character to guide us!

The scariest part of the night was the drive home in the rain, when 422 was the big piece of shit that it is and I wasn't sure if I was on the shoulder or in the exit lane because of stupid road work.  We also missed a few turns, and there may have been some name calling, but it's all good, I swear.

shocktoberfest, fun, win
