Well, it has been an extremely long time since i posted anything, and i'm sure your all wondering whats been going on in my life lately.
Things have been great lately, except for one thing that happened recently, which i will get into later. (You'll know what i'm talking about when you get to it ;))
Let's see, so your aware that i've been going to school taking a Digital Media Design course. I just finished my first year, and let me tell you, my brain is crammed full of craziness it's... well.... crazy! I've learnt a whole lot more than just simple web design and graphic arts. We've spent a great deal of time on print design building things such as Rack cards (those 4" x 9" cards you see in stores with information on companies and what they do), corporate packages that include business cards, letterhead and envelope design and the like. Also we've worked on effective ad layouts for newspapers and magazines. This is something that i'm not overly interested in, but is still great stuff to know.
We've spent time building Flash MP3 players and other multimedia applications such as virtual tours and slide/kiosk presentations (which i have to admit was really cool to learn, but a bitch to create).
Coming up this semester we will be building things such as online versions of MSN Messenger and Enhanced DVD's, menu and all. We will be learning how to do video compositing and other things related to the film industry which is super cool. One thing we learnt this semester was how to do Matte Paintings and integrate 3D objects into them to make it all look real. (got to admit, my project turned out pretty damn good. I'll have it posted on my site... once i get around to building it). The coolest thing about learning that is that if one were so inclined to make that their profession, they could be looking at a rather large 6 figure income with only having to work 8 months out of the year.
Hmm... what else. Um, this week a buddy of mine from class has approached me expressing that he wants to build a company together. Seems like it could be a good thing, gives us both a lot of practice and might even make us money while were in school, now wouldn't that be great! LOL
Also, I've had a couple of my instructors talk to me about doing work for them. Stuff that their clients need done but that they are not able or dont have the tie to do themselves. So that's super sweet too.
And um yeah, there's prolly a whole lot more stuff that i havent thought of so i'll move onto other things.
Nancy got herself a job at a web development firm (before me... lol). She's doing data entry for local sites, updating them and such. Also she is handeling accounts receivable tracking down clients that owe them money and such. (It's kinda complicated, and i don't really know a whole lot about it as she just started a couple weeks ago). She's not to crazy about the job as it's a bit dry and boring, but it's experience that will prove to be of great value to her and myself in the future.
Oh... and i'm happy to say that she has quit smoking. I however still need to do that myself. I'm slowly working on it, but recently I had something that kinda interferred with that happening.
(This is the thing i mentioned earlier)
Well, as i said, i just finished my first year of school. And all us students decided we were going to celebrate. Well, we were all drinking at a friends place and i had run out of smokes. So some of us decided to go for a munchie run. While walking out of the parking lot, I, being drunk and stoopid, felt that i could make my walk a bit quicker by jumping over a railing from the top level of the parking lot, to the lower. (A 9 foot drop).......... can you see where this is going....... Well, if you haven't figured it out.... I didn't quite stick the landing. Nope... you guessed it... I bailed hard... How hard you ask, well, lets just say that I am now the new proud owner of two steel screws.... in my ankle. DAMN!!! I managed to rip the main tendon on the inside of my foot so hard that it snapped that nubby bone commonly referred to as the ankle. It snapped so hard it shifted one centimetre down. Resulting in me having to get surgery done, and now being glued to the couch for my week off between classes.
So yep, it's official, alcohol, pot and smokes are all BAD BAD BAD for you. LMAO
So since I can't sit infront of my computer, I've stolen my dad's laptop and set up a remote connection to my so i can still access all my software in order to be able to get my work done. Also, this has now given me the time to organize some old files and such from years ago, plus given me the time to actually sit down and write this lovely piece of babble for you fine people.
Now I digress before I need to start looking to find a publisher for this soon to become auto-biography that is my life for the past little while.
I hope this has provided some insight as to how busy things have been for me lately. And i leave you with this parting thought...
"Drinking SERIOUSLEY impares your judgement... just ask my surgeon!"
Oh, one more thing. The rents sold Vern's as it was fast becoming a money pit due to inflated overhead and obscene product costs.... oh... and lack of staff doesnt help when trying to run a business. So, this means that i am currently unemployed, and with my recent "breaking" news, I will probably be out of work for quite some time. Hence why I hope this company my friend and i are trying to build will prove to be quite lucritive. With his amazing design ability, and my nack for backend programming and database design, I'm sure it will do just fine.
Take care all of you, I will attempt to add a few more posts over the next while and keep you updated on how things are going.
Cheers
