Guiding Light

She stood on the rocky shoreline and let the ocean breeze blow back her long, golden hair. It had been so long since she had simply stood still and enjoyed the view. She squinted and raised one hand to her brow to block out some of the sunlight.

The bulk of a dark lighthouse caught her eye, and she looked at it curiously. Odd how similar this planet was to Earth. It had lighthouses, green trees, brown rocks, and blue oceans. Even the people were similar: lovers, haters, selfish, selfless, greedy, and generous... And hers. She smiled softly as she reflected on that. They were all hers. Hers to protect, and hers to serve.

Odd. Not long ago, she would have angrily denied that the word serve applied to her. She had been the Queen of the Galaxy, the owner of the strongest star. She had had her fill of crawling and serving, and she had delighted in making others serve her. After a lifetime of being a nobody, of having to choke on every insult and abuse, it was finally her turn to dish it out. And, oh, how she had reveled in it. It made her sick, now, to think on how she had become like the very people she despised.

Then, she had met her match: the owner of the brightest, strongest star in the universe. She smiled as she thought of that beautiful senshi. She had been so brave, so strong, and so loving. Even when she was defeated, she reached out to help whoever needed it, ally or enemy. One day, she hoped to meet that star again, to thank her for setting her free. Until then, she would do her best to emulate her: the great Sailor Moon.

To do that, she would serve her people and protect them. But, she would not try to rule them. No, she would not make that mistake again. She was like that dark lighthouse there, built to warn people away from the rocks, but helpless to prevent them from ignoring her and crashing anyway. And like that lighthouse, she was only lit when the people needed that extra bit of help.

Comparing herself to a darkened lighthouse amused her, and she turned her attention back to the golden sun. Soon, it would set, and the lighthouse would be lit. Soon, the true guides would come out, and she could search for that one bright star out of the sea of stars. She would send up a prayer, as she did every night, and ask for that light to guide her as she did her best to guide her people.

Slowly, Galaxia walked down towards the lighthouse ready to begin another night of work.
