valley pride or gay wedding expo--either way it was a suburban soporific

Today's big activity was supposed to be L.A. Valley Pride. However, it turned out to be the following:
1. small
2. boring
3. virtually nothing but a gay wedding vendor expo
4. a suburban nightmare

I went with Mathew, who is always a blast to hang out with. The event was held on the CBS TV lot. That was kind of neat, seeing houses that you've seen often on shows. I got my 2nd installment of Hepatitis A & B vaccines from the Hep Team (free, even--yay!). We did run into a few folks Mathew knows and chatted for a few moments. All in all, I'd say we were there for about an hour, tops. And that included making the rounds twice to ensure we didn't miss anything.

After Valley Pride, we went to an Arts & Crafts show that was happening in the neighborhood, just because we could. It was a nice diversion and had more people and stuff in it than Valley Pride. All in all, I saw more than enough crafty stuff, however.

Next, we went to West Hollywood and had a nice lunch at Bossa Nova Brazilian Grill, then a walk through West Hollywood Park to find the Large Women's Love Your Body event thingy. It was hiding inside one of the big meeting buildings at the park. Apparently, Large Women can love their bodies, but only indoors.

The walk through the park was really just a part of the journey over to the Bodhi Tree, where we looked at books and such. I didn't buy anything, but Mathew did. Then we headed back, with a brief stop at the Man Store, or whatever it's called, to look at manly things. They had this amazingly manly silver-plated bottle of chianti, complete with raffia. I guess men like things like that.

After the WeHo diversions, we headed to Glendale to go to JoAnn Fabrics in order to buy materials for tarot bags. I got three different fabrics; two brocades (a gold one and a deep blue one) and a sort of sharkskin silky thing in red, as well as some gold cord.

Then, we drove a block to a parking structure (because we weren't sure where the place we were going to was located) and parked again so that we could go have a drink at B.J.'s Brewery and gawk at this amazingly hot boy I had a sort of date with about 6 months ago. He wasn't there, and B.J.'s was overly crowded, so we went to the other side of the building and had a drink at the bar at the Olive Garden. At that particular Italianate suburban restaurant/monstrosity, we had pomegranate/lemon martinis. Mathew had his with vodka and I had the one on the menu made with tequila. Of course, neither of them are really martinis--they are just cocktails in martini glasses--because they aren't made with gin and vermouth. There was a plethora of handsome wait staff there. I fell in love with about 7 different ones of them, and that was only the ones I paid attention to.

Once we were done with the drinks, we headed back to the parking structure and the car. I had a very embarrassing Mercury Retrograde moment with the elevators. Then we drove back to Mathew's where we discussed the bags and some other stuff and then I came back home to work on converting more CDs.

Did I mention that my CD project has sort of become predominantly about the music of David Diamond and Walter Piston, with a smaller emphasis on John Alden Carpenter? Well, it has. I have probably more music of Walter Piston in my CD collection than most music libraries. It's an absolute fetish. And I have quite a bit of Diamond's and Carpenter's as well.

I'm still working on this project as I type, however my eyes are demanding a rest from the contacts and reading glasses. I've noticed I have a lot more trouble with them using my computer here at home with it's CRT monitor than I do at work with the LCD screen.
