today started out very productive. however, i've totally tanked and lost steam this afternoon. so i just put on my favorite piece of piano music by Charles Tomlinson Griffes, The Lake At Evening. It's evocative, languid, haunting and deeply romantic without being heart on sleeve. It has lots of sly leading tones that give its faster sections a longing eroticism that often remains unsatisfied. But it's slower sections have all the calm and stillness of a calm and glassy lake reflecting the moonlight in the stillness of dusk. it's gorgeous.
music like this is why i became a composer.
