"Kiric, Kiric!"

More snow fell from the courtyard's roof, a sad plop into an already-growing bank; Kiric wasn't entirely sure he didn't empathize with it.

"Kiiiric-- there you are."

The cold nipped, surrounding and consuming and perfectly welcome. By this time, he didn't look up at the tall man who'd stopped beside him. There was a beat of silence, as though expecting him to say something, but then it was covered up by a playful (irritating) hum.

"Do you know what day it is?" Silence. "The day of one entire year!" A curious noise, more reflex than anything, but Kojiro could tell he got the attention he wanted, preened under it. "That's right-- my contract's up. I was hoping I could see your strength up close before leaving."

"... Congratulations." Said oh-so-much like Kiric, being not quite what Kojiro wanted, but it would do. Enough to step forward and let the snow and sunlight catch the steel of the blade he'd finally regained.

The courtyard was just as scratched up as it had been weeks ago, and when it was over, he was being dragged right back into the building (and he'd known that was going to happen anyway but at least the snow was beautifully tinted with red), but he was still happy.

"Oh!" The doors were almost closed, Kiric limped behind, but it had been beautiful, just like he'd known it would be- "Happy New Year, as well!"
