It wasn't as if they'd been drinking hard so much as they'd been drinking, swinging a keg and an arm over shoulders with the rubble all around them, no man's land crossed by many a man - hey, West, wasn't it great they took out those land mines? isn't it great they took down this wall? - and many more a shovel, cement knocked about.

East claimed he was toasting it all, green bottle see-through from the distant street lights, and West nearly bit his tongue when grey-white-not-blond hair shoved itself under his chin.

They found him next to a pigeon gate, lost seven men to him, chased him roof after roof until they'd been joined by him and then the impromptu mission wasn't quite theirs any longer.

Ezio followed him, twin white shadows (only his adjustments to the outfit were far better, of course) until the Venice river split the city, until they'd both made the same leap, one ending peacefully while the other tipped a gondola over.

They were both dripping wet by the time Ezio managed to drag his impostor (bad impostor, didn't even have a cape) onto the deserted pier, where the man barked out something harsh and grating and definitely not Italian, inching backward until his back hit the wall and then he tried to stand, which Ezio had to laugh at, because the trembling, sodden version of the other was rather funny.

What, you can't swim, friend? Obviously not had to be the answer, but though he found himself taking the man back to Antonio, he never quite got a spoken answer

Silence, the crack of a shot, and muttered curses.

So he'd forgotten to figure in the recoil for once - he still hit the target, and that was what counted. Not the obvious feel of the smirk on his back, or the airy promise of an eyepatch later on, or the fact that airy promise came true. It all just served him right for working with the Nobody, anyway.
