notes/warnings. I literally got this from the song
I'll Be by Edwin McCain after watching Vh1's Greatest Songs of the 90's the other night. A lot of schmoopiness, just a slight warning. Un-betae'd, any mistakes? All mine. And my first J2 fic, thought I'd throw that out there, too. *hides*

Jared didn’t know when it started. It might’ve been the sixth or seventh date with Jensen when he decided he wanted to show himself a little more; show how much Jensen meant to him, more.
Jensen smiled at Jared next to him, reaching for the handle. Jared leaned over, grabbing his hand to stop him.
Jensen started to protest when Jared shook his head, “Nope, I’m getting the door for you.”
He got out of the car, and he could tell from walking over to the other side that Jensen was shocked and disbelieving all at once. Opening the door, Jensen got out, laughing himself sick.
“You feelin’ okay, man?” Jensen asked, going into the car and grabbing his jacket from his seat. As soon as he got out and shut the door, Jared pressed him up against the car, sliding his hand around Jensen’s head, his mouth opening and tongue demanding entrance. Jensen made a surprised noise in his throat, opening his mouth. They kissed heatedly for awhile when Jared pulled them apart, kissing Jensen’s still eager lips a few more times.
“’Night.” His whisper ghosted against Jensen’s red-kissed lips; his eyes flickered.
“You sure you don’t want to come in? I have some beers, I think.” Jensen’s hands went around his waist, lowering until they reached just above Jared’s ass, holding on.
Jared smiled a little, ducking his head. “Nah, gonna go home, kinda tired.” Jensen looked slightly disappointed, and nodded.
“Okay, ‘night.” Jared let him go, watching him go inside.
He got in the car and let go of a breath he was holding in without knowing it.

Some time into their relationship Jared did little things, things that he knew would make Jensen realize how much he wanted this. They weren’t huge life altering things that Jensen noticed, but the little things. The things Jared did that made Jensen blush all the way up to the tips of his ears.
Jensen woke up, yawning and stretching his arms up way over his head. He hummed contently, turning over to wrap his arm around Jared but found no one. He cracked an eye open, the only thing he saw was sheets and a tangled comforter. He lifted his head.
“Jay?” Jensen got up, immediately regretting the decision as it was freezing in Jared’s apartment. He put one of Jared’s shirts on and walked to the kitchen, smiling as he saw Jared in nothing but some sweat pants, making coffee and buttering some toast.
Jensen walked over to Jared, wrapping an arm around him. Jared nestled back against him, “Mornin’ babe,” Jared murmured as Jensen kissed his bare shoulder.
“Mm, morning.” Jensen said into his skin. Jared smiled hugely, turning into Jensen’s arms, kissing him deeply. Jared tasted like toothpaste and smelled of after shave. Jensen smirked against his lips, Jared smiling into the kiss just as hard.
They pulled apart, Jensen’s mouth opening to say something about breakfast when Jared interrupted him.
“So, I was thinking,” he said thoughtfully, arms wrapping protectively around Jensen’s torso.
“About?” Jensen asked.
“I think we should go for a drive, maybe even drive up to that place you always like to go to?” Jared said, his eyes searching Jensen’s.
“Really? You never want to go up there. And it’s freezing this time of the year.” Jared shrugged.
“I want to go now.” Jensen raised his eyebrow questioningly. Jared laughed, throwing his head back. “I’m serious! I want to go.” Jensen smiled at him.
“Well, if you really want to. Okay, let me go get dressed.” Jared grinned hugely, kissing Jensen one more time and letting him walk away. He smacked Jensen’s ass playfully and Jensen looked back at him shocked.
“I’m not an object, Jared. Jeez.” Jared laughed at his boyfriend, watching as he left shaking his head. He let go of another breath he never noticed was held in.
It wasn’t going to be much longer now.

Jensen was curled up against Jared’s back one night, his breath falling against Jared’s neck. Jared turned, careful to not wake him; he roamed his eyes over Jensen’s sleeping face, wanting to kiss him but still not wanting to make too much movement. He traced a finger across his shoulder, skimming against freckled skin. Jensen made a noise, indicating how much of a light sleeper he really was.
The rain fell angrily on their roof, the only other noise in the room being Jensen’s light breathing. Jared smiled sleepily at him, knowing Jensen couldn’t see him.
Jared said ‘I love you’ just as quiet as the rain sounded like when it finally died down.

“Excellent choice, sir.” The woman smiled graciously at him from behind the counter. “This one is one of a kind, the last one we have.”
Jared exhaled nervously, “It’s absolutely perfect.”
“They’ll be speechless. I know it.”
Jared smiled, blushing slightly at the comment. “Yeah, I hope so.” The woman showed her brilliant white smile again, taking the box and ringing it up.
“Birthday present for a close friend? Or father?” She asked him. Jared looked confused for a minute, then laughed a little.
“Uh, yeah. They kind of lost theirs, I wanted to get them a new one.”
The clerk nodded understandingly, “Well, hopefully they don’t lose this one, it’s a precious gift.”
Jared swallowed, “Yeah. It is.”
The next breath he let out was easier, but it still made him dizzy.
**
“You’ve gotta be kidding me!”
Jared huffed angrily into his phone. “Mike, this isn’t funny. I need your help here.”
“What are you talking about, man? I have no idea how to help you, what made you think I could?”
Jared looked out the window for any sign of Jensen’s car pulling up. Flicking the blinds back, he huffed again into the phone, running a shaky hand through brown hair.
“I don’t know, Mike! Advice, anything’s fine.”
He heard Mike sigh. “Okay, well, I love you both. You know that, right?”
Jared finally felt a smile stretch on his face. “’Course, man.”
“Well, my advice to you is this: you hurt him, any way shape or form, I will run you over with a golf cart.” Jared snorted in amusement. “And if he hurts you, same goes for him.”
Jared nodded, a solemn smile appearing on his face. “Thanks.”
“No problem. Now, go get em’ tiger.”
“Alright, you son of a bitch, I’ll call ya’ll later.” He closed his phone just as the door to his apartment opened and he heard Jensen’s footsteps. He walked the few steps to the hallway and he smiled when he saw Jensen’s face.
“What the fuck is this?” Jensen said just above a whisper, his eyes roaming the room. There were candles all over the place, lit and burning in different sections of the room. Jared flushed.
“It took me awhile, so no jokes from the peanut gallery.”
Jensen looked flabbergasted. “I’d probably be joking around if I knew why the fuck all these candles are doing here. I thought we were going out tonight?” he asked hesitantly.
Jared smiled at him, his hands shaking slightly. “I lied.”
Jensen closed his open mouth, “I can see that. What’s all this for, Jay?”
Jared walked over, his knee bending, his whole body falling in front of Jensen. He was shaking, he knew he was.
“Jen.”
“Jared.” Jensen still looked confused.
“I have no idea how the hell I’m supposed to say this without coming off totally corny, but,” he reached into his pocket, taking Jensen’s hand, “I love you, man. And I tell you that all the time, I know that. This just feels right. And I don’t care if I look like a nervous wreck, and what anyone else thinks. We’ve come this far, you know? I think we should do this.” Jensen smiled widely, his eyes sparkling harder than Jared ever remembered they could.
“You sure?”
Jared stood up, putting the shiny band on Jensen’s finger. “More than anything.”
When Jensen crushed his lips against his, it was an entirely different dizzy feeling altogether.
**
“I don’t think this’ll work without it, Steve.”
“Can I just say I love that you’re doing all this behind good ol’ Jensen’s back?” Steve’s laugh was mischievous.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Jared rolled his eyes, his lips turning up into a smirk, “he’d kill me if he knew I was planning this out. No lie.”
“No problem, I got it under control. He won’t find out.”
Jared hung up. He seriously hoped so, Jensen going on a homicidal rampage was definitely not part of the wedding.
**
“I can’t believe we did it,” Jensen said to Jared, squeezing his hand as people walked by their table and congratulated them with smiles that screamed ‘awww.’ Jared chuckled, squeezing back.
“And you were afraid of this turning into a sob fest. Well, I guess it was, considering we both couldn’t stop after we said ‘I do.’” Jensen threw his head back and really laughed.
“You’re right. And did you see our mom’s? Jesus, almost like they’ve never been to a wedding in their lives.”
Jared nodded, trying hard not to notice Steve and the band setting up on stage.
“Is that Steve up there?” Jared barely heard Jensen whisper that to him when the mic cut on, the feedback slightly going off.
“Hey everyone, how’s the couple doin’ back there, good?” Jared lifted his glass to him and Jensen shook his head smiling. “Good, now, I know my buddy Jensen might not like what I’m gonna do,” at this point Jensen is turning to Jared, ready to ask what the hell Steve means, “but I think he might prove me wrong and not get completely mad at me.” Steve winked in their general direction, nodding over to the band.
The clatter of dialogues faded, all eyes on the band when the first few notes started. Applause and whoops erupted, and Jensen turned red for a second.
“The strands in your eyes, that color them wonderful, stop me and steal my breath..”
Jared grinned, standing up. Jensen started to shake his head.
Steve paused singing for a moment when he saw all eyes focus on Jared and Jensen, “This here’s the first dance, so I better see some dancing, cowboys,” then resumed his singing of the 90’s love ballad.
Jensen looked around once then back at Jared, who had his hand out. Jensen sighed, giving in. He took it, and Jared lifted him up from the chair. Jared walked them to the center, hearing the second verse start and hoping to God Jensen doesn’t rip his head off later.
Jensen stared up at him, and Jared felt his breath catch. He felt his heart drop to his feet as he wrapped his arm tightly against Jensen’s waist. He felt Jensen’s hand rest at his shoulder, and then they were swaying. Jared heard Steve crooning and felt all eyes on them as he danced with Jensen, nothing in the world could interrupt them if it tried.
“Tell me that we belong together, dress it up in the trappings of love.”
“I’ll be your crying shoulder, I’ll be love’s suicide. I’ll be better when I’m older, I’ll be the greatest fan of your life.”
This was them, in front of their families, in front of their friends. This was the ultimate expression. All the little things he did in preparation was nothing compared to this.
Jared felt like he was on fire, rushing emotion overtaking him as the applause was deafening.
When they sat down, Jared didn’t feel dizzy.
“I love you,” Jensen said, kissing him deeply.
He didn’t stop feeling dizzy for long.
