Thanks for the good thoughts, y'all. Power was back on by 7 - we were out for about 9-10 hours. One of the most powerful hurricanes ever to slam into the Gulf coast, and I didn't even lose the ice cream in the freezer. Life is good.
Some parts of Bay county are badly flooded; the storm surge did major damage around the bays, and the beach itself is devastated. A few buildings were damaged, but all things considered it could have been a LOT worse. HRH was, predictably, about as useful as tits on a bull. Spent the night sleeping instead of trading off with me like he was supposed to
Dominick, my rooster, spent half the night crowing in the bedroom. Silly bird. When I checked on them this morning, I discovered my hens don't let hurricanes slow them down - every one of them laid an egg. The corn & tomatoes are flat, don't know if I can save them or not. I've got 2-3 hours work tomorrow - packing up the supplies, unboarding the rest of the windows, cleaning up the yard, and other suchlike chores. Nothing I can't handle, and a lot less than I thought I'd have to do.
Now let's hope the tropical wave following in Dennis' wake doesn't decide to do anything interesting.
