Happy endings, new beginnings

Animal rescue can be draining, emotionally, physically, and certainly financially, but every now and then a day comes along that makes it all worth it. Today was one of those. Roma, a 1-year old female Carolina/hound mix and Heidi, a declawed tabby & white female cat went to their forever homes this afternoon. Both were abandoned - Roma was a young pup, picked up as she was chasing the car containing the bastards who dumped her on the roadside - may they rot in a very warm place; Heidi was left behind in a parking lot when her owners moved. Both animals found their way here because they were lucky enough to be rescued by friends of mine.

Roma's new owner is an avid outdoorsman who owns a fishing camp - with LOTS of land - on a local river. She's an energetic young dog who needs a job, and she loves to hunt. Here it's been rabbits, possums, squirrels, and the occasional rat. She gets to play in the river, sleep on the bed, and go hunting frequently. He wants to train her for boar and deer, and she's got a male beagle to pal around with between hunting expeditions. An ideal life for a busy dog.

Heidi's new family has 4 young children who want a cat that loves to cuddle and sleep with her humans. Since Heidi's ambition is to be a professional lapwarmer, it's an ideal match. She has a stay-at-home mom, a fenced yard to play in during the day if she chooses, and her choice of cuddlepartners at night. Even better for her, the new family owns an organic farm, with goats, chickens, ducks, and alpacas - and plenty of fresh milk and eggs to eat.

I wish them well in their new lives. :)
