Yeah, I return from the deadlands of non-LJ posting at long last. In my absence I have discovered two things:

(Point the First)
Nobody wants to hire someone with a BA degree. Nobody. I have been searching for a job for almost a solid month now and just had my first interview today. This in a city that supposedly is howling and foaming at the mouth, rabid for a larger workforce to meet its insatiable demand. I have received only two callbacks from the innumerable jobs I have applied for, one of which I had to turn down because they wanted me to work at (and only at) the one time in the week when I explicitly told them I wasn't available. On the bright side, I had an interview at the Sentry Box (local game store) today that I think I really knocked out of the park. The only hitch in my mind is that I have to leave in September, and they know I have to leave in September. But there is hope: I seemed to convince the store's owner during the interview that they needed a summer-only position for inventory/relabelling of every damn thing in the store, since the newfound strength of the Canadian dollar means they need to drop all of their prices back. There are four other people in line for interviews behind me, though. Is it better to be the first one interviewed, the last, or somewhere in the middle?

(Point the Second)
The Pirates of the Spanish Main "Constructible Strategy Game" is one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time. It combines three elements that appeal to me: excellent tabletop strategy, extremely beautiful miniatures, and random foil card packs. All three make me feel like I'm 12 again, especially the latter - I used to collect hockey and comic superhero cards in my youth (most of which are still kicking around in storage somewhere in my life), and I remember the joy of ripping into a pack of cards to see what I'm going to get. So I'm knee-deep in Pirates right now, though ironically I have yet to actually get a Pirate faction ship in any of the numerous packs I have bought. As it stands I'm currently blowing the shit out of everything with a bunch of dedicated American marauders.

As it should be.

Back to your normally-scheduled lives now.
