He’s shaking, his breathing ragged. There’s blood streaking his face, soaking his clothes, running from his nose and mouth. It’s killing me to see him this way, to know what’s coming. It hurts so bad that I can’t see, or are those tears clouding my eyes?
He rasps my name and I know it’s tears. Why did he stand there? Stand between that demon and me? Between that spear and me? I hate him for it. I hate him so much because he’s leaving me, and there’s nothing I can do.
“I love you,” I tell him.
And he’s gone.
