I got the Barbie pocket hoops done, but I forgot to take a picture with Chris’s phone last night, or to borrow a camera from my parents. Anyway, I’ve been looking at how to make a skirt to go over top too, as I don’t want it to have a wonky hemline that dips in front and is too high on the sides. So I found “An Easy, Authentic 18th Century Petticoat” which is completely made of awesome and win, with one exception. When I made it for Barbie, her waist is so tiny, that the pleats would have to overlap and make a really bulky waist band, or the front and back would touch when I’m wrapping it in both the front and the back, again creating bulk at the waist. So I think next I have to try my original idea which I believe I’ve seen somewhere… Which is to make the skirt so that it is a tube, then make a seam along the top edge of the tube on either side, leaving the center open (and adding the waistband, leaving the front and back, relatively flat), and then gathering (or pleating) up the sides to the waistband until the hem is level. If I have the opportunity, I’ll scan in the little diagrams I’ve made and post them along with the finished project.

See, I have this Barbie pattern that I want to make…Simplicity 9521 (see image) that has a colonial gown that I want to make with Polonaise skirting, or a Sacque back…then maybe make one for myself, eventually.

Right now my mother in law has distracted me with really quick and easy crochet granny squares. So we’ll see if Barbie gets the rest of her 18th C outfit…
