Last Sunday, I got the word that L. Neil Smith, the SF writer and libertarian activist, had died last Friday. I wish I'd been more surprised---he was 75, had come through the Covid recently and had suffered several strokes in previous years.
I'd only ever met him in person three times, but we'd corresponded frequently, more so when we both got on the Net, and I'd contributed to his 'zine, the Libertarian Enterprise. While there were a few areas where we disagreed, we agreed on about 95% of things, and thought very similarly. It could be because we were both "Heinlein's children"---we'd both been heavily influenced by Robert Heinlein (PBUH).
I had known this day would come, but I wish it hadn't come so soon.
