Well, my birthday's here again. It comes around every year. Yippee.
The last week or so has been unwontedly busy; the Census has suddenly got a wild hair and we're back into training, but we're doing it from home. This is not an unmixed blessing.
They've provided me with assorted materials, including a rather nice dedicated laptop. I'm supposed to be doing my training online, at their website. At first, I had some troubles getting into the damn website, but once we figured out that it doesn't like Firefox, I was able to get in with Edge. (I'd dropped Edge some while ago after endless trouble with it crashing on me at the slightest provocation.)
Then I had to activate the laptop they sent me, and it turns out to be locked up to NSA levels of security. Why, I do not know, but I do not have the mad "privacy" fetish a lot of people have. That took a lot of talking with their IT people to get straightened around. They could have sent me written instructions, but NOOOO... After that, it turned out that I couldn't connect to their damn network. I'll try again today and see if I can figure out the problem. They're paying me for my time, but I get cranky if I can't get things done.
